One week in Okinawa
From October 17-24 2022, we went for one week in Okinawa. We rented a flat near the ocean through airbnb. Beaches were minutes away by foot and we enjoyed swimming in the clear water above the corals. We arrived under torrential rain and strong wind. It stayed this way for 3 days and then the weather became sunny and less windy. It was always very warm and humid, as you can expect on a tropical island. We have been happy to find organic and vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Onna and Yomitan villages, we even had one cafe/restaurant just 5 minutes away by foot from our flat, Cafe/Restaurant Gajimaru, managed by very nice and friendly people.
We had a rent a car (Nissan Note) so we went to visit few places, Okinawa is not big so you can almost go anywhere for the day; Onna-eki vegetables and fruit market, Zakimi ruins castle, an underwater observatory tower, a light house, another small island... but after these visits, we came back mostly in the area of the flat, as it was a nice place to be, many diving and snorkelling schools were there with many people coming to dive and snorkel. Some years ago, we did dive and snorkel in Australia on the great barrier reef, so we did not do any of this in Okinawa, we were more interested in taking it easy on the beach and having a good swim.
Overall we enjoyed Okinawa, we were glad to be in the Onna village area
and that we could also easily find food to our taste. We even found a great bakery, with creative and friendly bakers. On the last day before flying back, we took the mono rail from the airport to go to the city center of Naha.
